Urban tourism as a source of social protests: the example of Venice

Na całym świecie rozprzestrzeniają się przejawy niezadowolenia i protestów wokół kwestii związanych z turystyką w miastach. Niekontrolowany rozwój turystyki miejskiej prowadzi do wielu zmian gospodarczych, ekonomicznych czy socjokulturowych. Celem mojej pracy jest wyjaśnienie głównych przyczyn overtourismu, zaprezentowanie problemów turystycznych miast, przede wszystkim włoskiego miasta, Wenecja oraz przedstawienie wybranych form protestów miejskich skierowanych przeciw rozwojowi turystyki. Praca ma na celu udzielenie odpowiedzi na pytanie czy rzeczywiście turystyka miejska szkodzi miastom i ich mieszkańcom?

Across the globe, there has been a proliferation of manifestations of discontent and protest around tourism-related issues in cities.The growing significance of urban tourism as a force that transforms cities becomes a source of conflicts, especially in culture and heritage cities. The uncontrolled development of city tourism leads to many economic and socio-cultural changes. The purpose of my B.A thesis is to explain the main causes of overtourism, to present the tourist problems of cities, also the Italian city, Venice, and to present selected forms of urban protests directed against the development of tourism. I would like to answer the question; Does urban tourism really harm cities and their inhabitants?
