Byzantine lament in the light of philological data up to the sixth century A.D.

Celem tej pracy było zaprezentowanie zjawiska lamentu bizantyjskiego, jego pochodzenia i pozycji w dobie rozwoju religii chrześcijańskiej. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Pierwszy rozdział zawiera podział na lament rytualny i literacki, przedstawienie lamentu rytualnego i jego kultowego znaczenia oraz umiejscowienie podczas ceremonii pogrzebowej za czasów starożytnych i bizantyjskich. Drugi rozdział skupia się na lamencie w greckiej tradycji literackiej, zawiera opis postaci rozpaczającej Matki Boskiej w wybranych chrześcijańskich utworach i analizę porównawczą bohaterów w pogańskich i chrześcijańskich dziełach literackich. Trzeci rozdział dotyczy kwestii postrzegania lamentu i zmian jakie zaszły wraz z pojawieniem się chrześcijaństwa.

The aim of this thesis was to present a phenomenon of byzantine lament, its origin and position in these times of development of Christianity. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first one consists a subdivision of lament into ritual and literary form, overview of ritual and its cultic character as well as location during the funeral ceremony in ancient and byzantine times. The second chapter focuses on the lament in traditional Greek literature, consists a description of Mother of God in her grief in selected Christian literary works, also comparative analysis of characters in pagan and Christian writings. The third chapter apply to issues how lament was perceived and what changes occurred with the appearance of Christianity.
