Niniejsza praca ma za zadanie podjęcie próby wyjaśnienia i zrozumienia fenomenu ogromnej popularności serialu "Ramayan" (reż. Ramanand Sagar) podczas jego oficjalnej transmisji w latach 1987-1988. W pierwszym rozdziale zawarta jest skrócona historia telewizji indyjskiej oraz programów, jakie na początku były emitowane. Drugi rozdział dotyczy Ramajany i postaci w niej występujących. Ma na celu przedstawienie ich zachowań i moralności jako autorytetów. Trzeci, zamykający pracę rozdział, porusza tematykę serialu Ramayan i przedstawia jego historię i recepcję wśród indyjskiej publiczności.

This thesis is an attempt for explaining and understanding the fenomenon of outstanding popularity of the Ramayas series ( dir. Ramanand Sagar) in 1987-1988, when it was first broadcasted on the TV. The first part refers to the history of indian television and first programms and shows to be aired. The second part briefly describes the plot of Ramayana and presents it's characters . The aim is to show how their mindset and morals were influencial for masses. The third part is about the Ramayan series and it's history and reception in indian audience.
