Image of the ideal teacher in the eyes of the primary school pupils

This thesis pertains to the image of the ideal teacher in the eyes of the primary school pupils. The theoretical part contains educationalists’ judgments on the role of the teacher in the teaching-learning process not only in the contemporary education system - but also in Herbart’s, Dewey’s, Montessori’s, Freinet’s and Steiner’s schools. It touches on the matter of the teacher’s personality, their authority, relationship with pupils and effective communication with them. The following part of this work tests the aforementioned theories in practice – it contains a discussion about questionnaires filled in by primary school students. The questions applied to the teacher’s personality, their appearance, source of authority, teaching methods, relationships with students, and communication. In conclusion, the ideal teacher must have a sense of humor, be full of ideas, and open to their students, who want to have a good connection with their teacher. The role of a teacher is not only to teach. Pupils need their teacher to help them, to understand their difficulties, to give simple explanations of complicated matters. The ideal teacher always has to be ready to support their students both in and outside of school.

Praca podejmuje problematykę wizerunku idealnego nauczyciela w oczach uczniów szkoły podstawowej. Część teoretyczna zawiera sądy pedagogów oraz dydaktyków na temat roli nauczyciela w procesie kształcenia, jego zadań i obowiązków również w innych niż współczesny systemach edukacyjnych (szkoły: Herbarta, Deweya, Montessori, Freineta, Steinera). Poruszone zostaje zagadnienie osobowości nauczyciela, jego autorytetu, relacji z uczniem oraz skutecznego porozumiewania się z nim. Kolejna część pracy sprawdza przedstawione teorie w praktyce – zawiera omówienie ankiet wypełnionych przez uczniów szkoły podstawowej. Pytania dotyczyły kolejno: osobowości nauczyciela, jego wyglądu, źródła autorytetu, sposobów prowadzenia lekcji, relacji z uczniem oraz komunikacji z nim. Praca pokazuje, że najważniejszymi cechami dobrego nauczyciela są: poczucie humoru, pomysłowość oraz otwartość na dialog z uczniem, a młodym ludziom bardzo zależy na dobrej relacji z osobą uczącą, która nie ogranicza się jedynie do przekazywania wiedzy. Uczniowie pragną widzieć w nauczycielu osobę, która zawsze im pomoże, zrozumie ewentualne trudności, wytłumaczy odpowiednio bardziej skomplikowane zagadnienia i będzie ich wspierać zarówno w szkole jak i poza nią.
