Phenomenon of slum tourism - on selected examples

Currently, the tourism industry is one of the fastest growing branches of the economy. Traveling has become one of the basic human needs. In addition to traditional forms of tourism, commercial mass tourism, a number of alternative varieties are created, aimed at satisfying the growing tourist needs and offering an unprecedented tourist product. These include slum tourism, i.e. visiting poverty districts, most often in the countries of the Global South by wealthy tourists from the Global North. This is a relatively new form of tourism, but it dates back to the nineteenth century. The author in this work undertakes to analyze the phenomenon of slum tourism, due to a number of emotions and controversies that arouse this topic and personal interests.The subject of this work is the phenomenon of slum tourism, and the purpose of the work is to present its phenomenon. The author analyzes the conceptual issues of this phenomenon, presents the history of slum tourism, describes the main destinations of this form of tourism and examples of research devoted to it, as well as the opinions of journalists, scientists and travel bloggers about it. The basis for writing the paper were source materials, the subject's literature and the author's own research. The work consists of an introduction, ending and three chapters.

Przemysł turystyczny w obecnych czasach jest jednym z najszybciej rozwijających się gałęzi gospodarki. Podróżowanie stało się jedną z podstawowych potrze ludzkich. Obok tradycyjnych form turystyki, np. komercyjnej turystyki masowej powstaje szereg alternatywnych odmian, mających na celu zaspokojenie coraz większych potrzeb turystycznych i zaoferowanie niespotykanego produktu turystycznego. Do takich należy turystyka slumsowa, czyli odwiedzanie dzielnic biedy, najczęściej w państwach Globalnego Południa przez bogatych turystów z Globalnej Północy. Jest to stosunkowo nowa forma turystyki, ale sięga swoimi korzeniami XIX w. Autorka w niniejszej pracy podejmie się analizy zjawiska turystyki slumsowej, ze względu na szereg emocji i kontrowersji, jakie wywołuje ta tematyka oraz osobiste zainteresowania. Przedmiot niniejszej pracy stanowi zjawisko turystyki slumsowej, a celem pracy jest przybliżenie jej fenomenu. Autorka analizuje problematykę pojęciową tego zjawiska, przedstawia historię turystyki slumsowej, opisuje główne destynacje tej formy turystyki oraz przykłady badań jej poświęconych, a także opinie publicystów, naukowców i blogerów podróżniczych na jej temat. Podstawę do napisania pracy stanowiły materiały źródłowe, literatura podmiotu oraz badania własne autorki. Praca składa się ze wstępu i zakończenia oraz trzech rozdziałów.
