Humour in the Polish translation of Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The aim of this thesis is to explore the efficiency of translation of humour in the Polish version of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a comedy television series. The first chapter introduces the concept and chosen theories of humour, drawing attention to the notion of speech characteristics and personality traits of speakers as an important part of humour analysis. The second chapter presents a basic terminology connected with translation, as well as a range of domesticating and foreignising translation techniques. The third chapter is devoted to the analysis of excerpts taken from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The excerpts are analysed by identifying the source of humour in the original and the translation technique employed in the Polish version as well as evaluating the effects of translation with special attention paid to the personality and speech characteristics of the characters in the show.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie efektywności tłumaczenia humoru w polskiej wersji serialu komediowego Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Rozdział pierwszy wprowadza pojęcie i wybrane teorie humoru. Cechy osobowości i cechy charakterystyczne mowy są przedstawione jako istotny aspekt analizy humoru. Rozdział drugi przedstawia podstawowe pojęcia związane z dziedziną tłumaczenia, a także prezentuje spektrum strategii tłumaczeniowych od oswojenia po egzotyzację. Rozdział trzeci poświęcony jest analizie fragmentów zaczerpniętych z Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Fragmenty serialu są analizowane poprzez wskazanie źródła humoru w wersji oryginalnej, zidentyfikowanie techniki tłumaczeniowej użytej w polskiej wersji serialu i poddanie ocenie efektywności tłumaczenia ze zwróceniem szczególnej uwagi na cechy charakterystyczne mowy i osobowości postaci.
