Praca dotyczy wybranych problemów Spisza jako obszaru spotkania różnych kultur i tradycji, regionu o wyjątkowej, pogranicznej tożsamości, z niezwykle interesującą, chociaż niełatwą historią. Spisz jest regionem, który obecnie leży w granicach dwóch państw – Polski i Słowacji, ale przez wieki stanowił jedną całość. Zmiany przynależność państwowej, procesy kolonizacyjne, a także historia znacząco wpłynęły na kształtowanie się dziedzictwa kulturowego Spisza. W pierwszym rozdziale pracy zostały przedstawione różne koncepcje pogranicza oraz ich wpływ na tożsamość jednostki. Są to kwestie niezwykle istotne w zrozumieniu procesów zachodzących na omawianym terenie. Charakterystyka regionu została zaprezentowana w drugim rozdziale, natomiast zarys jego historii w trzecim. Zagadnieniom historycznym poświęcona została także kolejna część pracy, w której przypomniano najistotniejsze wydarzenia, związane z regionalnymi konfliktami. W ostatnim rozdziale przedstawione zostały współczesne inicjatywy kulturalne organizowane na pograniczu polsko-słowackim, zwłaszcza na Zamagurzu Spiskim. Ich głównym celem jest promocja dziedzictwa kulturowego Spisza oraz zachowanie polskiej lub słowackiej tożsamości narodowej. Organizatorem tych wydarzeń są różne środowiska i organizacje, których wspólnym celem jest promocja Spisza i jego unikalnych tradycji. Członkostwo w Unii Europejskiej, a także otwarte granice stwarzają wiele nowych możliwości współpracy z organizacjami po drugiej strony granicy.

The work concerns selected problems of Spisz as an area of meeting different cultures and traditions, a region with a unique border identity, with an extremely interesting, though not easy history. Spisz is a region that currently lies within the borders of two countries - Poland and Slovakia, but for centuries it was one whole. Changes in nationality, colonization processes and history have significantly influenced the development of the cultural heritage of Spisz. The first chapter of the work presents various concepts of the borderland and their impact on the individual's identity. These issues are extremely important in understanding the processes taking place in the discussed area. Characteristics of the region are presented in the second chapter, while the outline of its history in the third. Another part of the work was devoted to historical issues, recalling the most important events related to regional conflicts. The last chapter presents contemporary cultural initiatives organized on the Polish-Slovak border, especially in Zamagurze Spiskie. Their main goal is to promote the cultural heritage of Spisz and to preserve the Polish or Slovak national identity. The organizers of these events are various environments and organizations whose common goal is to promote Spisz and its unique traditions. Membership in the European Union as well as open borders create many new opportunities for cooperation with organizations on the other side of the border.
