Wątki polskie w kinematografii USA. Rola kina i telewizji w kształtowaniu stereotypów o Polsce i Polakach

Częste i masowe migracje Polaków do USA na przestrzeni ostatnich dekad, a także ich zauważalna fascynacja kulturą Stanów Zjednoczonych i stylu życia za oceanem zrodziła chęć zbadania mechanizmów tego zjawiska. W niniejszym opracowaniu poza definicją stereotypu narodowościowego zawarto także opis mechanizmów medialnych, które te stereotypy utrwalają lub dezaktualizują. Szczególną rolę w kształtowaniu świadomości i sposobu myślenia o innych nacjach stanowi kultura popularna i rozrywka, której nieodłącznym elementem jest serial i film. W pracy zbadano jaki obraz Polaków oraz Amerykanów polskiego pochodzenia kształtują filmy i seriale produkcji amerykańskiej, a także czy fascynacja wątkami polskimi w tychże produkcjach jest uzasadniona.

Frequent and mass migrations of Poles to the USA over the last decades, as well as the noticeable fascination of Poles with the culture of the United States and the way of life overseas, has sparked the desire to investigate the mechanisms of this phenomenon. In this study, in addition to the definition of the national stereotype, there is also a description of media mechanisms which make these stereotypes permanent or outdated. A special role in shaping the awareness and way of thinking about other nations is played by popular culture and entertainment, the inseparable elements of which are series and movies. The study examines what image of Poles and Americans of Polish origin are shaped by American films and series, and whether the fascination with Polish themes in these productions is justified.
