Islamic terrorism

At the end of XXth century and at the beginning of the XXIst the terminology such as “the Islamic terrorism” or “fight with the terrorism” became more and more common. Nowadays, in the contexts mentioned above, the Islam religion is very often equated with terrorism. The main purpose of the master’s thesis was to analyse the problem of “Islamic terrorism”. The main assumption is that Islamic terrorists are acting in the name of the religion. However, their interpretation of Islam is particular and it servers their own goals and interest. The thesis consists of the five chapters. The first one defines the meaning of the term “Islam” and introduces its history, laws and tradition. Its influence on art and culture is also presented there. The second section clarifies the definition of the terrorism and focuses on the theory of terrorism in its historical and modern context as well. The third part of the dissertation widely describes the problems associated with detecting and countering the terrorists' threats. The fourth chapter explains the definition and the role of jihad in Islam religion. In the final chapter the author characterises the main terrorist organisations in the world such as Islamic State, Al-Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah.

W XX-XXI w. coraz częściej możemy spotkać hasła „terroryzm islamski”, „walka z terroryzmem”. W tym kontekście bardzo często utożsamia się islam z terroryzmem. Niniejsza praca ma na celu zanalizowanie problematyki terroryzmu islamskiego. Badacz przyjmuje tezę zakładającą, że terroryści islamscy działają w imię własnej interpretacji religii islamskiej – tłumacząc tym samym swoje działania.Opracowanie składa się z pięciu rozdziałów. Pierwszy z nich wprowadza w historię i pojęcie islamu, a także przedstawia jego kult i prawa oraz wpływ na kulturę i sztukę. W drugim rozdziale autor skupia się na teorii terroryzmu, ujęciu definicyjnym i historycznym, a następnie odnosi go do współczesności i motywów działań terrorystycznych. W trzecim rozdziale badacz poświęcił uwagę problematyce wykrywania i zwalczania terroryzmu. Zawarte w czwartym rozdziale treści przybliżają problematykę dżihadu - jako świętej wojny w islamie. W piątym rozdziale autor dokonuje charakterystyki największych ugrupowań terrorystycznych na świecie, poświęcając rozważania Państwu Islamskiemu, Al Kaidzie, organizacji Hamas i Hezbollah.
