The functions of linguistic stylization and their realisation in the german translation of the tomes of the tales „Ostatnie życzenie“ and "Miecz przeznaczenia" by author Andrzej Sapkowski

Celem pracy jest przeanalizowanie fragmentów z tomów opowiadań „Ostatnie życzenie” i „Miecz przeznaczenia” Andrzeja Sapkowskiego, które zostały poddane stylizacji językowej i porównanie ich z ich niemieckim tłumaczeniem, celem ustalenia, jaki wpływ miały decyzje tłumacza na oddanie funkcji stylizacji językowej. Praca ze stylizowanym tekstem opiera się na metodach zaproponowanych przez Stanisława Dubisza w jego pracach na temat stylizacji językowej. Po dokonaniu analizy stylistycznej opowiadania „Granica możliwości”, na podstawie której zostają ustalone formy stylizacji w obu tomach opowiadań, następuje analiza konkretnych przykładów fragmentów, w których występuje stylizacja językowa. Badane jest, jak realizowane są funkcje stylizacji w tekście oryginalnym i w tłumaczeniu. Wyniki analizy pokazują, że w tłumaczeniu funkcje stylizacji, uzyskane dzięki użyciu archaizmów i dialektyzmów są realizowane w mniejszym stopniu niż w oryginale, co ma związek z przyjętą przez tłumacza strategią udomawiającą. Inne funkcje stylizacji językowej są realizowane w większym stopniu, choć i tu dochodzi do osłabienia działania funkcji.

The goal of this thesis is the analysis of excerpts from 'The Last Wish' and 'The Sword of Destinity' stories written by author Andrzej Sapkowski, which were given a linguistic stylization and compared with their German translation, in order to establish the impact the translators decisions have had on the rendering of the linguistic stylization functions. The work on stylized text is based on methods proposed by Stanisław Dubisz in his works on the topic of language stylization. After performing the stylistic analysis of the story 'The Limit of Possibilites', which was the basis for establishing the forms of stylization in both tomes of the tale, there comes the analysis of concrete examples of excerpts, in which linguistic stylization appears. The realization of the functions of stylization in the original text and the translation is being examined. The results of the analysis show, that in the translation the functions of stylization achieved through the use of archaisms and dialectisms are realized in lesser extent than in the case of the original piece, which is connected to the domestication strategy adapted by the translator. Other functions of linguistic stylization are realized in greater extent, although the weakening of the effect of the function takes place here as well.

Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, zu analysieren, wie die Passagen aus den Erzählungsbänden „Ostatnie życzenia” und „Miecz przeznaczenia” von Andrzej Sapkowski, in denen sich der Autor literarischer Stilisierung bedient, in die deutsche Sprache übersetzt wurden und welchen Einfluss die von dem Übersetzer getroffenen Entscheidungen auf die Realisierung der Funktionen der literarischen Stilisierung hatten. Die Vorgehenweise basiert größtenteils auf den Werken zur Stilisierung von Stanisław Dubisz. Nach der Durchführung einer gründlichen stilistischen Analyse der Erzählung „Granica możliwości”, auf deren Beispiel die Formen der Stilisierung in beiden Erzählungsbänden bestimmt wurden, wurde an konkreten Beispielen analysiert, wie die Funktionen der literarischen Stilisierung im polnischen Original und in der deutschen Übersetzung realisiert werden. Die Ergebnisse der Analysen zeigen, dass in der Übersetzung die Funktionen der Stilisierung, die durch die Anwendung der Archaismen und der Dialektismen erzielt werden, weniger erfolgreich realisiert werden, was mit der domestizierenden Strategie der Übersetzung von Erik Simon zusammenhängt. Die anderen Funktionen der Stilisierung werden im Prinzip erfolgreicher in der deutschen Sprache wiedergegeben, obwohl es da auch manchmal zu Abschwächungen der Funktionen kommt.
