The issue of womens emancipation in selected texts by Hana Gregorová

Tematem mojej pracy dyplomowej jest rozwój ruchu emancypacyjnego na ziemiach słowackich w okresie od ostatnich dekad XIX wieku do uzyskania przez kobiety praw wyborczych. Problematykę omawiam, wykorzystując literaturę naukową oraz wybrane teksty Hany Gregorovej, w których z perspektywy autorki zostały ukazane najważniejsze wydarzenia i zjawiska, mające wpływ na proces emancypacji na Słowacji. Celem pracy jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób rozwijała się droga kobiet do wolności i jak przebiegała walka o równouprawnienie. Uwagę poświęcam także przyczynom ówczesnych uprzedzeń wobec kobiet i silnie zakorzenionych stereotypów, sposobom konstruowania wizerunków i wyobrażeń na temat kobiet oraz okolicznościom przyznania im praw wyborczych. Rozważania rozpoczynam od analizy systemu edukacji i kształcenia w Austro-Węgrzech oraz informacji na temat zwiększającej się świadomości społecznej, dzięki powstającym stowarzyszeniom i czasopismom. Znaczący wpływ na zmianę tradycyjnego myślenia dotyczącego modelu rodziny i ról społecznych miała współpraca działaczy narodowych z ruchem kobiecym; praca dla dobra narodu miała angażować wszystkich obywateli – kobiety i mężczyzn. W dalszej części pracy uwagę skupiam na wyjątkowych postawach kobiet, które swoją działalnością przyczyniły się do szerzenia nowych idei dotyczących roli kobiety i jej wartości dla narodu, wspominam również postawy mężczyzn, którzy byli sojusznikami ruchu kobiecego. Wymienione problemy analizuję następnie na podstawie wspomnień Hany Gregorovej, aktywnej uczestniczki procesów emancypacyjnych.

The subject of my bachelor’s thesis is the development of the emancipation movement in the Slovak lands in the period from the last decades of the 19th century to the gaining of voting rights by women. I discuss the issues using scientific literature and selected texts by Hana Gregorova, in which from the author's perspective, the most important events and phenomena influencing the emancipation process in Slovakia are presented. The aim of the work is to show how the path of women to freedom has developed and how the struggle for equality has proceeded. I also pay attention to the causes of the prejudices against women and deeply entrenched stereotypes at that time, the ways of constructing images and perceptions about women and the circumstances of granting them voting rights.The starting point of my considerations is the analysis of the education system in Austria- Hungary and information on the increasing social awareness thanks to the emerging associations and magazines. The cooperation of national activists with the women's movement had a significant impact on changing the traditional thinking about the family model and social roles; work for the good of the nation was to involve all citizens - women and men. In the further part of the work, I focus on the exceptional attitudes of women who, through their activities, contributed to the spread of new ideas about the role of women and her values for the nation, I also recall the attitudes of men who were allies of the women's movement. I analyze these problems on the basis of the memories of Hana Gregorova, an active participant in emancipation processes.
