The issue of suicide in the Republic of Korea 1988 – 2018

The subject of this thesis is the issue of suicide in the Republic of Korea 1988 – 2018. The first chapter outlines the socio-economic changes during the tenure of successive presidents and depicts the most important events in the given time period. The second chapter analyses the trends in suicide from 1998 to 2018 and attempts to find their possible causes. This part also raises the matter of cultural factors and their influence on the amount of suicides in Korea. The final chapter is focused on the government-led suicide prevention methods. It describes the undertaken measures in chronological order and considers possible steps to be taken in the future.

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest kwestia samobójstw w Republice Korei w latach 1988 – 2018. W pierwszym rozdziale zarysowano przemiany społeczno-ekonomiczne za rządów kolejnych prezydentów, a także przedstawiono najważniejsze wydarzenia w podanym okresie. W drugim rozdziale analizuje się trendy w samobójstwach w latach 1988 – 2018, aby potem przejść do rozważań na temat ich potencjalnych przyczyn. Podjęto też temat uwarunkowań kulturowych i ich wpływu na ilość popełnianych samobójstw w tym kraju. W ostatnim z rozdziałów skupiono się na sposobach zapobiegania śmierciom samobójczym przez władze państwowe. Dokonano chronologicznego przeglądu programów prewencyjnych, a także zastanowiono się nad możliwymi przyszłymi działaniami, które mogłyby zostać podjęte przez rządzących.
