The portrayal of women in Voltaires philosophical tale "Zadig, or The Book of Fate"

L’objectif de mon mémoire de licence est de montrer la façon dont Voltaire présente les femmes dans son conte philosophique «Zadig ou la destinée» et d'indiquer la relation entre les personnages de fiction et les expériences réelles du philosophe. Dans le premier chapitre je situe la création de l'auteur dans le contexte du siècle des Lumières. Dans le chapitre suivant, je décris le genre du conte philosophique ainsi que les circonstances de la création et la structure de l’œuvre analysée. Dans le troisième chapitre, je présente les personnages féminins qui apparaissent dans le conte en les confrontant aux femmes qui ont exercé un impact significatif sur la vie de Voltaire.

Przedmiotem mojej pracy jest ukazanie sposobu przedstawienia przez Woltera kobiet w powiastce filozoficznej „Zadig czyli Los” oraz wskazanie zależności pomiędzy fikcyjnymi postaciami i prawdziwymi doświadczeniami filozofa. Pierwszy rozdział jest usytuowaniem twórczości autora w epoce Oświecenia. W kolejnym rozdziale opisuję gatunek powiastki filozoficznej oraz okoliczności powstania i strukturę dzieła. W rozdziale trzecim analizuję występujące w powiastce postaci kobiece, przedstawiając następnie relacje Woltera z kobietami, które wywarły istotny wpływ na jego życie.

The subject of my bachelor thesis is to present the way in which Voltaire describes women in his philosophical tale «Zadig, or The Book of Fate» and to indicate the parallels between the fictional characters and the real experiences of the philosopher. The first chapter is showing the impact of author's work on the Age of Enlightenment. In the next chapter, I describe the genre of the philosophical tale as well as the circumstances of the creation and the structure of «Zadig». In the third chapter, I analyse the female characters who appear in the tale, then I present Voltaire's relationships with the women who have had a significant impact on his life.
