The master's degree thesis concerns on the phenomenon of Wikipedia - the free, socially created, online encyclopedia. The considerations are focused on the information layer of the issue, by assessing the quality of the information based on the analysis of the literature and surveyed users. The first part of the paper consists of theoretical introduction and overview of the phenomenon and its origins, the principles of Encyclopedia and the future development, then Wikipedia is being compared with a traditional, printed encyclopedia, as well as with other online encyclopedias. The second part is an elaboration of Wikipedia as the source of information, in light of the analysis of the literature. The final part discusses the survey carried out among users, through which it was possible to assess the information about the quality of Wikipedia and information presented there. Wikipedia, due to the specific type of creating and editing of the data it contains, is often considered to be a not very valuable source of information. This work was written to acquire and discuss the users feedback on the topic.

Przedmiotem pracy jest fenomen Wikipedii - wolnej, społecznie tworzonej encyklopedii internetowej. W rozważaniach skupiono się na warstwie informacyjnej projektu, dokonując oceny jakości zawartych w nim informacji poprzez analizę piśmiennictwa oraz badania użytkowników. Pierwszą część pracy stanowi wprowadzenie i ogólny opis zjawiska oraz jego genezy, zasady funkcjonowania encyklopedii oraz prognozy na przyszłość, następnie Wikipedia została porównana z encyklopedią tradycyjną oraz innymi encyklopediami internetowymi. Kolejną część pracy stanowi omówienie wartości informacyjnej tego źródła informacji, w świetle analizy piśmiennictwa. Ostatni rozdział jest omówieniem badania przeprowadzonego wśród użytkowników za pomocą kwestionariusza ankiety, dzięki któremu możliwe było dokonanie oceny Wikipedii pod kątem jakości informacji. Encyklopedia ta, ze względu na specyficzny sposób powstawania i edycji zawartych w niej danych, często uważana jest za mało wartościowe źródło informacji. Praca ma na celu weryfikację tej tezy za pomocą analizy piśmiennictwa oraz badania opinii użytkowników Wikipedii.
