The letter in the Italian landscape of three epochs

Litera obecna w literaturze i w dziełach sztuk pięknych stanowi element znaczeniowy, którego charakter i funkcja łączy się z kontekstem ideologiczno-kulturowym epoki i wraz z nim się zmienia. Artykuł koncentruje się na funkcji napisu w utworach włoskich, które są symbolami trzech epok: malowidłach Belliniego i Carpaccia, a z dzieł literackich: Komedii Dantego, Canzoniere Petrarki i Orlando Furioso Ariosta. Spotykamy się tu z inskrypcją, która jest "znakiem firmowym" twórcy, charakteryzuje malarski i poetycki pejzaż, determinuje narracyjne zdarzenie, podkreśla przekaz i sens wypowiedzi. Analiza wybranych utworów wskazuje na dynamikę motywu, który niezależnie od nadanego mu charakteru: symbolicznego, alegorycznego, edukacyjnego, egzemplifikacyjnego jest świadkiem przeobrażeń świadomości i sposobu postrzegania realnego świata.

The Letter, detectable in literature and fine arts, could be considered as an element of meaning. Its nature and function combine with ideological and cultural context of the era and evolves with it simultaneously. The article focuses on the function of the inscription in the Italian symbols of three epochs: paintings by Bellini and Carpaccio, and literary works: Commedia of Dante, Petrarch’s Canzoniere and Orlando Furioso of Ariosto. The inscription, which is the creator’s "hallmark", characterizes both pictorial and poetic landscapes, determines the narrations, emphasizes the expression and the meaning of the message. The analysis of the selected works indicates a dynamity of the motif which, regardless of its symbolic, allegorical, educational or explanatory nature, is witnessing the transformation of consciousness and perception of the real world.
