Historia każdej dyscypliny kształtuje się retrospektywnie, przez rekonstruowanie tradycji badawczych, nurtów, szkół, a przede wszystkim postaci, które współtworzyły określone style myślowe. Polska etnografia i socjologia, przekształcając się na przełomie XIX i XX wieku w profesjonalne dyscypliny naukowe, angażowały zarówno badaczy - mężczyzn, jak i ciekawe świata kobiety. Jednak oficjalną historię tych dyscyplin wypełniają jedynie sylwetki tych pierwszych; to ich publikacje zasilają główny nurt dyscyplin i składają się na kanon literatury etnograficznej i socjologicznej. Tymczasem, jak wiemy, wyobraźnia naukowa współtworzona jest także przez kobiety.

The history of a discipline is composed retrospectively, by the reconstruction of research traditions, trends, schools, and above all the characters who co-created certain styles of thought. Polish ethnography and sociology evolving at the turn of the 19 and 20 century into professional disciplines, engaged both researchers - men and women interested in the world. However, the official history of these disciplines is filled only with the former; their publications create the mainstream of the disciplines and make up the canon of ethnographic and sociological literature. Meanwhile, as we know, the scientific imagination is also co-created by women.
