Ethos of the academic teacher (ethos vs practice)

The author analyses the features of The ethos of a modern aca-demic teacher (i.e. of researchers and teachers), examining his own observations against the statements of such authors as Kazimierz Twardowski, Allan Bloom, Bill Readings, Jacek Bieliński, Robert Mer-ton, Alasdair MacIntyre and others. The author concludes that in the situation of the present academic community, subject to rivalry and corporate authority - direct, personal, dialogic and creative relation-ship between the scholars, trainees and students becomes a matter of fundamental significance and incalculable value. Reflections on the mentor-mentee relationship are particularly exposed in the modern academic discourse
