The article proves the importance of studying unoffi cial correspondence in the academic circles of the 18th century for the reconstruction of the institutional history of the Academy of Sciences. The author analyses the text of two letters from Berlin (of L. Euler and J.A. Euler to J. Formey) and demonstrates the place of J. A. Euler in administrative system of the Academy.
