Activity and interactions in the museum space in view of the environmental changes

Działalność muzealna obejmuje aktywności podstawowe (gromadzenie, konserwowanie i udostępnianie zbiorów), oraz dodatkowe, czyli działania kulturowe, turystyczne, społeczne i edukacyjne. Punktem odniesienia jest przestrzeń wystawiennicza, jednakże nowe funkcje implikują jej poszerzanie i redefiniowanie. Pandemia oraz obostrzenia wpłynęły na muzea każdego statusu i rodzaju. Działania wcześniej proponowane, jak wirtualne wizyty lub lekcje, stały się od pierwszej połowy 2020 roku kluczowym elementem aktywności. Celem artykułu jest zbadanie, jakie zmiany wprowadzono w sposobie kreowania interakcji i aktywności w przestrzeni muzeów. Zastosowano podejście jakościowe oraz metodykę wielokrotnego studium przypadku. W sposób przekrojowy przeanalizowano, jakie zmiany wprowadzono w sposobach formowania interakcji i aktywności w przestrzeni muzeum. Zwrócono uwagę na perspektywę czasową - czy pewne modyfikacje zostaną utrzymane, czy też preferowane są poprzednie formy budowania interakcji. Wobec wpływu sytuacji epidemiologicznej na muzea, jest to zagadnienie warte eksploracji. Niepewność dotycząca przyszłej sytuacji sprawia, że rozważane zmiany mogą dotyczyć nie tylko perspektywy krótkofalowej, ale być kolejnym motorem zmian w muzeach.

Museum activities include the basic ones (collecting, conserving and exhibitions), as also supportive, pertaining cultural, touristic, social and educational activities. The reference point is the exhibition space, yet new museum functions imply its extension and redefinition. The pandemic and restrictions affected the museums of each type and profile. The previously proposed activities, like virtual visits or lessons, became a crucial element of the activity and offer from the first half of 2020. The aim of the article is to investigate which changes were introduced to creating interactions and activities in the museum's space. A qualitative approach and multiple case study method were applied. The changes introduced in the methods of forming interactions and activity in the museum space were analyzed in a cross-sectional way. The time perspective was also noticed- if some modifications will be maintained, or whether the previous forms are preferred. Facing the impact of the epidemic situation over the museums, this is an issue worth exploring. Uncertainty about the future situation means that the considered changes may not only concern the short-term perspective but also be another driving force behind changes in museums.
