Biblioteka-labirynt a perspektywa nieskończoności w opowiadaniu Biblioteka Babel Jorge Luisa Borgesa i Imieniu róży Umberta Eco

Przedmiotem pracy jest opowiadanie Biblioteka Babel Jorge Luisa Borgesa i powieść Imię róży Umberta Eco. Nadrzędna dla obu tekstów figura biblioteki-labiryntu została przeanalizowana pod względem konstrukcji, kwestii centrum oraz w odniesieniu do archetypu tej zawiłej budowli, jakim jest wieża Babel. Celem pracy było wykazanie, że w wymienionych aspektach, omówionych w poszczególnych rozdziałach, przejawia się nieskończoność. Istotne dla tego zagadnienia okazały się odwołania zarówno do płaszczyzny dosłownej, jak i wymiaru metafizycznego.

The thesis concentrates on the short story The Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges and the novel The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. The figure of library-labyrinth, dominant in both texts, has been analyzed in terms of its construction, the matter of the centre and in relation to the archetype of this convoluted building, which is the Tower of Babel. The aim of the study was to show that in the mentioned aspects discussed in individual chapters, infinity manifests itself. Relevant to the issue turned out to be references to the literal plane and to the metaphysical dimension.
