Genetic documents in the web of relations between the author and readers (on an example of the cycle Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling)

Celem pracy było przebadanie, jak wykorzystywane są przez pisarzy dokumenty genezy jako narzędzie budowania relacji z czytelnikami oraz w jaki sposób odbiorcy reagują na podobne działania. W tym celu sięgnięto po popularną serię Harry Potter J.K. Rowling, by przebadać strategię publikowania zapisków autorki oraz ich odbiór przez entuzjastów cyklu. Na początku przeanalizowano środowisko fanowskie oraz relacje fandomu z samymi twórcami. Sięgnięto przy tym do teorii kultury popularnej Fiskego, a także do badań dotyczących środowisk fanowskich. Po rozważaniach teoretycznych zajęto się problemem stosunków pomiędzy autorem a czytelnikami. Wyodrębniono kilka rodzajów relacji pomiędzy autorem a czytelnikami, przy czym zaklasyfikowano te pomiędzy Rowling, a jej fanami jako wrogie. Po wstępnej charakterystyce fandomu Harry’ego Pottera zajęto się bezpośrednio tematem wykorzystywania dokumentów genezy jako narzędzia budującego obraz dzieła i pisarza w oczach fanów. Dokładnie prześledzono, kiedy i w jakich okolicznościach Rowling publikowała dokumenty genezy. Przeanalizowano przy tym, dlaczego podejmowała określone decyzje i jak jej działalność kształtowała fandom Harry’ego Pottera. Wspomniano jednocześnie o licznych kontrowersyjnych działaniach autorki i narastających konfliktach pomiędzy nią a jej czytelnikami. Następnie przeanalizowano odbiór zapisków Rowling przez sam fandom Harry’ego Pottera. Zostały opisane najważniejsze fanowskie źródła informacji związanych z dokumentami genezy. Przebadano zjawisko tworzenia fanowskich wikii, szczególnie w kontekście badań nad nowymi mediami. Pozwoliło to na pokazanie jak konkretne informacje zostają przekazywane kolejnym odbiorcom. Jednocześnie przeanalizowano przykłady fanowskiej eseistyki związanej z dokumentami genezy. Dzięki temu ukazano jak duże jest wśród fanów zainteresowanie tematem.Na koniec skupiono się na twórczości fanowskiej. Wykazano, że dokumenty genezy miały także wpływ na akt twórczy samych fanów. W tym celu nie tylko przeprowadzono badanie ilościowe, pokazujące skalę zjawiska, ale i przeanalizowano przykład fanfiction – opowiadania fanowskiego. Na jego przykładzie pokazano, jak fani odwołują się do oryginalnego zapisku pisarki i jak przetwarzają zawarte w nim informacje, by stworzyć nowy tekst.

The aim of the work was to examine how the genetic documents are used by writers as a tool for building relationships with readers and how the audience reacts to such actions. For this purpose, the popular Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling was chosen as a research subject in order to investigate the strategy of publishing the author's notes and their reception by enthusiasts of the series.In the beginning, the fan community and specifically the fandom's relations with the creators themselves were analyzed. To better showcase the subject, Fisk's theory of popular culture was used, as well as research on fandom. After theoretical considerations, the problem of relations between the author and readers was addressed. Several types of relationships between the author and readers were distinguished, with those between Rowling and her fans classified as hostile.After the initial characterization of the Harry Potter fandom, the topic of using the genesis documents as a tool for building the image of the work and the writer in the eyes of fans was dealt with directly. The author of the thesis has carefully traced when and under what circumstances Rowling published the documents of the genesis. It was also analyzed why she made certain decisions and how her activities shaped the Harry Potter fandom. At the same time, the author's numerous controversial activities and the growing conflicts between her and her readers were mentioned.The reception of Rowling's notes by the Harry Potter fandom itself was then analyzed. The most important fan sources of information related to the genetic documents have been described. The phenomenon of fan wikia creation has been studied, especially in the context of research on new media. The author showed how specific information is passed on to subsequent recipients. At the same time, examples of fan essays related to genetic documents were analyzed.At last, the author focused on fan works. It was shown that the genetic documents also had an impact on the creative act of the fans themselves. For this purpose, not only a quantitative study was carried out, showing the scale of the phenomenon, but also an example of fanfiction was analyzed. This example showed how fans refer to the writer's original note and how they process the information it contains to create a new text.
