The concept of information bubble in the informatological perspective. Analysis of selected case studies

Przedmiotem pracy jest zagadnienie bańki informacyjnej w perspektywie informatologicznej. Przedstawiono charakterystykę i definicję tego zjawiska w oparciu o krytyczną analizę literatury. Dodatkowo omówione zostały aspekty technologiczne tworzenia się baniek informacyjnych, w tym wyszczególniono rolę algorytmów w procesie formowania się baniek. Opisano zjawiska gatekeepingu oraz stronniczości i ich wpływ na funkcjonowanie baniek informacyjnych. Zaprezentowano społeczny aspekt baniek informacyjnych. Przedstawiono problematykę nowych mediów jako źródeł informacji i wiedzy. W pracy omówiono również pojawiające się w środowisku naukowym krytyczne głosy i sceptycyzm wobec istnienia baniek informacyjnych i ich funkcjonowania. Poddano analizie wybrane studia przypadków, a na ich podstawie przygotowano projekt badań własnych. Kwestionariusz stworzony na potrzeby pracy licencjackiej posłużył do przedstawienia istniejących w środowisku studentów zagrożeń związanych z pozyskiwaniem informacji i korzystaniem ze źródeł informacji i wiedzy. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników zaprezentowano analizę czynników ryzyka oraz ich potencjalny wpływ na formowanie się baniek informacyjnych.

The subject of the thesis is the issue of the information bubble in the information science perspective. The characteristics and definition of this phenomenon are presented on the basis of a critical analysis of the literature. Additionally, the technological aspects of information bubble formation were discussed, including the role of algorithms in the process of information bubble formation. The phenomena of gatekeeping and bias and their impact on the functioning of information bubbles are described. The social aspect of information bubbles was presented. The issues of new media as sources of information and knowledge were presented. The paper also discusses the critical voices and scepticism about the existence of information bubbles and their functioning emerging in the scientific community. Selected case studies were analysed, and based on them, a project of own research was prepared. The questionnaire created for the purpose of thesis was used to present the threats existing in the students’ environment related to obtaining information, as well as using sources of information and knowledge. Based on the obtained results, an analysis of risk factors and their potential impact on the formation of information bubbles were presented.
