The author attempts to identify and describe the major types and subtypes of female characters in Russian literature of the classical period, from Nicholas Karamzin to Anton Chekhov. The typology is dominated by two oppositions: the type passive - active type and "dolls" (women pretty, but stupid) - type of wise woman. In passive subtypes, there are two types of characters - an innocent victim and a silent angel. The types actively represent: neophytes of emancipation, the heroine of organic work, fiery hearts, queens of life, fatal women and salon lionesses. In addition, the type of operating faithful companion, acting as a host model, including the features of any other form of positive except fiery hearts.
