Kanoniczne relacje z Auschwitz-Birkenau: Opowiadania Tadeusza Borowskiego, Czy to jest człowiek Primo Leviego oraz Five Chimneys Olgi Lengyel

Przedmiotem mojej pracy jest analiza i interpretacja sytuacji więźniów oraz procesów dehumanizacji, którym byli poddawani przez nazistów na terenie obozu Auschwitz-Birkenau. Odwołuję się do opowiadań Tadeusza Borowskiego z tomu Byliśmy w Oświęcimiu, napisanego wspólnie z Januszem Nelem-Siedleckim i Krystynem Olszewskim, książki Czy to jest człowiek Primo Leviego oraz wspomnień Olgi Lengyel zatytułowanych w wersji angielskiej Five Chimneys. Omawiane wydawnictwa ukazały się w latach 1946-1947. W odniesieniu do obozowych wspomnień Viktora Frankla, zatytułowanych Człowiek w poszukiwaniu sensu, zastanawiam się nad mechanizmami obronnymi, które umożliwiły pewnej części więźniów ocalenie ich moralności w sytuacji granicznej, jaką był obóz, a także staram się dokonać analizy ich zachowania. W tym celu przedstawiam wizje obozu, która została przedstawiona przez poszczególnych autorów, począwszy od transportu, poprzez przybycie do obozu i finalnie asymilację. Interpretując świadectwa, staram się wyciągnąć wnioski dotyczące podobieństw, które możemy w nich odnaleźć, biorąc pod uwagę nie tylko różnorodność doświadczeń, ale również sposób prowadzenia narracji, obrany przez autora język, styl, a także pochylam nad problemem dotyczącym kwestii kobiecych w obecnym dyskursie o Zagładzie.

The subject of my work is the analysis and interpretation of the situation of prisoners and the processes of dehumanisation to which they were subjected by the Nazis at the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. I refer to Tadeusz Borowski's short stories from the volume We Were in Auschwitz, written together with Janusz Neel-Siedlecki and Krystyny Olszewski, Primo Levi's book Is This a Man, and Olga Lengyel's memoirs entitled Five Chimneys in the English version. The publications in question were published between 1946 and 1947. In relation to Viktor Frankl's camp memoirs, entitled Man in Search of Meaning, I reflect on the defence mechanisms that made it possible for a certain part of the prisoners to save their morality in the border situation that was the camp, and I also try to analyse their behaviour. For this purpose, I present the visions of the camp that were presented by the different authors, starting from the transport, through the arrival in the camp and finally the assimilation. By interpreting the testimonies, I try to draw conclusions about the similarities we can find in them, taking into account not only the diversity of experiences, but also the way the narration was carried out, the language and style chosen by the author, and I also look at the problem of women's issues in the current Holocaust discourse.
