The PhD dissertation deals with the issue of management concepts. The purpose of this dissertation is to develop guidelines relating to application of the lean manufacturing concept in organisations from the construction industry. For the purposes of the dissertation, the author applied such research tools as critical and comparative analysis of literature and system documentation, the process auditing method and process maturity measuring tools. Considering the above-mentioned purpose, the following research problems and hypotheses have been formulated: 1. What is the process maturity level in construction industry organisations? It is assumed to be in the region of 2-3 (on the basis of self-assessment of key elements). 2. What are the main sources of wastefulness in the analysed organisations in the technical, organisational and social system? It is assumed that in this case the reasons behind the most serious losses are: waiting, unnecessary moves, transport and incorrect identification of key processes. 3. What are the possibilities of implementing the lean manufacturing concept on the basis of the existing process-oriented approach in construction industry organisations? Process solutions already existing in quality management systems are believed to be conducive to implementation of model lean manufacturing solutions. The dissertation comprises an introduction, six chapters, a summary, a bibliography, a list of pictures and tables, and an annex. The first chapter discusses the idea of application of the process-oriented approach to various standardised management systems. The second chapter deals with the process-oriented approach to selected management concepts. Individual models have been selected because they are all based, to a greater or lesser extent, on the process-oriented approach. The third chapter contains an analysis of the selected classification of quality costs and implementation of internal accounting for such costs, which - in a broader perspective - constitute expenditures incurred or profits lost as a result of imperfect activity. In connection with the main research area of the dissertation, the fourth chapter presents an overview of literature relating to the specificity of the construction industry in the context of application of the lean manufacturing concept. The author assumed that quality management systems implemented in accordance with the ISO 9001 standard already exist in the construction industry, and the knowledge of lean manufacturing may prove useful for shaping theoretical assumptions for a research model. The fifth chapter contains the results of empirical research describing process maturity, which took place during the period from May to September 2018 in the form of individual interviews held at respondents' premises. The questionnaire developed for research purposes was a compilation of the provisions of the standard aimed at measuring maturity of the existing systems, enhanced with over 20 years of the author's professional experience in implementing quality management systems. In the sixth and last chapter, a lean manufacturing concept in the construction industry, developed on the basis of the author's own research, is presented. Taking into account strengths and weaknesses of individual organisations, guidelines on how to strengthen the process-oriented approach have been formulated, an extended definition of components of the lean manufacturing operating system has been proposed, and the best implementation methods and tools, considering the specificity of the construction industry, have been selected.
