Simon the Magician and the Simonians in sources of the heresiologists of Christian antiquity.

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest nakreślenie obrazu Szymona Maga i jego zwolenników – szymonian, jaki wyłania się ze źródeł herezjologów chrześcijańskiego antyku, aby ukazać jego wkład w rozwój myśli gnostyckiej, a także zagrożenie, jakie dostrzegał w niej Kościół apostolski i poapostolski. Pierwszy rozdział zatytułowany „Historyczne, kulturowe i religijne tło formowania się chrześcijaństwa” jest próbą syntetycznego opisania środowiska religijnego, kulturowego i społecznego, w którym należałoby osadzić Szymona i szymonian. Druga część pracy prezentować będzie poszczególne teksty źródłowe z ukazaniem szczegółowego kontekstu historycznego, społecznego, religijnego i kulturowego, tj. czasu powstania, adresatów, kwestii genologicznych i hermeneutycznych. Trzecia część połączy w sobie syntetyczny obraz Szymona i jego zwolenników, jaki wyłania się ze źródeł, oraz odpowie na cele badawcze postawione we wstępie pracy. Dodatkiem do pracy jest aneks, w którym zestawione zostały wybrane fragmenty tekstów źródłowych dostępnych w języku polskim, a także własne tłumaczenia na język polski na podstawie angielskich przekładów.

The aim of this master's thesis is to outline the image of Simon the Magician and his followers - the Simonians, which emerges from the sources of the heresiologists of Christian antiquity, in order to show his contribution to the development of Gnostic thought, as well as the threat that the Apostolic and Post-Apostolic Church saw in it. The first chapter, entitled "Historical, cultural and religious background of the formation of Christianity" is an attempt to synthetically describe the religious, cultural and social environment in which Simon and the Simonians should be placed. The second part of the work will present individual source texts showing a detailed historical, social, religious and cultural context, i.e. the time of creation, addressees, genological and hermeneutic issues. The third part will combine the synthetic image of Simon and his followers that emerges from the sources, and will respond to the research goals set out in the introduction to the work. An appendix to the thesis is a selection of sources available in Polish, as well as own translations into Polish based on English translations.
