NORTHERN IRELAND IN THE AGREEMENTS ON THE WITHDRAWAL OF GREAT BRITAIN FROM THE EUROPEAN UNION

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej była analiza sytuacji, w jakiej znalazły się Wielka Brytania, Irlandia i Irlandia Północna podczas Brexitu, próba zrozumienia, jak doszło do Brexitu, czego obawiały się strony, jak przebiegał Brexit i dlaczego szczególną uwagę zwrócono na Irlandię Północną.W pierwszej części opracowania przedstawiono relacje między trzema stronami w kontekście historycznym. Omówiono historię pierwszych osiedleń w Irlandii, kształtowanie się państwa, pojawienie się chrześcijaństwa na wyspie i podział na katolików i protestantów, formowanie się tożsamości narodowej, wojny i stosunki Irlandii z Wielką Brytanią oraz przyczyny odłączenia się Irlandii Północnej.W drugiej części przedstawiłem proces przystąpienia Wielkiej Brytanii i Irlandii do struktur europejskich, jak doszło do referendum w 2016 r., oraz przeanalizowałem przyczyny sukcesu kampanii VOTE LEAVE. Zwróciłem również uwagę na proces negocjacji w sprawie Brexitu oraz na działania podejmowane przez Wielką Brytanię w celu uniknięcia politycznego i gospodarczego fiaska.W trzeciej części przeanalizowano dwa główne dokumenty, które oznaczają koniec Brexitu: Umowa o wystąpieniu Wielkiej Brytanii i Irlandii Północnej z Unią Europejską i Europejską Wspólnotą Energii Atomowej, oraz Umowa o handlu i współpracy między Unią Europejską i Europejską Wspólnotą Energii Atomowej oraz Zjednoczonym Królestwem Wielkiej Brytanii i Irlandii Północnej. Bardziej szczegółowo omówiono także Protokół dla Irlandii Północnej. Bez tego protokołu istniało ryzyko twardego Brexitu

The purpose of this masters degree thesis was to analyze the situation faced by Britain, Ireland and Northern Ireland during Brexit, to try to understand how Brexit happened, what the sides were afraid of, how Brexit proceeded, and why special attention was paid to Northern Ireland.The first part of the work presents the relationship of the three sides in a historical context. I researced the background of the first settlements in Ireland, the formation of the country, the emergence of Christianity on the island and the division into Catholics and Protestants, the formation of a national identity, the wars and Ireland's relationship with Britain, and the reasons for the separation of Northern Ireland.The second part concentrates on the process of Britain and Ireland joining the European structures, the reasons that led to the referendum in 2016, and the reasons for the success of the VOTE LEAVE campaign. I additionally reviewed the Brexit negotiation process and the UK's actions to avoid a political and economic fiasco.The third part reviews the 2 main documents that marked the end of Brexit, The EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement as well as the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. The Northern Ireland Protocol is also considered in more detail, the absence of this protocol caused the danger of a Hard Brexit
