The figure of seneschal Kay in Vengeance Raguidel of Raoul de Houdenc and in The High Book of the Grail (Perlesvaus), an anonymous novel from the 13th century.

The following thesis is dedicated to the analysis of the figure of seneschal Kay in Vengeance Raguidel of Raoul de Houdenc (early 13th century) and in The High Book of the Grail (Perlesvaus), an anonymous novel from the 13th century. The purpose of this work is to show how the figure of the Arthurian seneschal is portrayed in the above works. The first chapter examines the literary past of the character in question, from Welsh tales, through Latin texts, to the novels of Chrétien de Troyes. The second chapter is an analysis of the character of the seneschal in Raoul de Houdenc's novel La Vengeance Raguidel. The third chapter focuses on the role of Keu in the High Book of the Grail (Perlesvaus). The whole of this dissertation is completed by the introduction, conclusions, and bibliography of the texts studied and consulted and the critical works.

Niniejsza praca magisterska poświęcona jest analizie postaci seneszala Keu w Pomście Raguidela Raoula de Houdenc (początek XIII w.) oraz w Szczytnej Księdze Graala (Perlesvaus), anonimowej powieści napisanej prozą w XIII w. Celem pracy jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób postać arturiańskiego seneszala została przedstawiona w wyżej wymienionych utworach. Pierwszy rozdział skupia się na „przeszłości literackiej” omawianej postaci, od opowieści walijskich, przez teksty łacińskie, aż po powieści Chrétiena de Troyes. Drugi rozdział zawiera pogłębioną analizę figury seneszala w Pomście Raguidela. Trzeci koncentruje się na roli Keu w Szczytnej Księdze Graala. Całości dopełniają wstęp, konkluzja oraz bibliografia tekstów źródłowych i opracowań krytycznych.

Le présent mémoire de maîtrise est centré sur l’analyse du personnage du sénéchal Keu dans la Vengeance Raguidel de Raoul de Houdenc (début du XIIIe s.) et le Haut Livre du Graal (Perlesvaus), roman anonyme en prose du XIIIe siècle. Le but de ce travail est de montrer comment la figure du fameux sénéchal arthurien est dépeinte dans ces deux ouvrages. Dans le premier chapitre j’examine le passé littéraire du personnage en question, des contes gallois jusqu’aux romans de Chrétien de Troyes, en passant par les textes latins. Le deuxième chapitre contient une analyse approfondie du personnage du sénéchal dans la Vengeance Raguidel. La troisième porte sur le rôle de Keu dans le Haut Livre du Graal. L’ensemble du mémoire est complété par l’introduction, les conclusions et la bibliographie des textes étudiés et consultés et des ouvrages critiques.
