Charlotte Salomon oczami Davida Foenkinosa (Charlotte, 2014)

Mon mémoire de licence vise à analyser le portrait de l’artiste Charlotte Salomon dans le roman Charlotte de David Foenkinos, publié en 2014. Le roman est basé sur les faits biographiques de la vie de Charlotte Salomon (1917-1943), ainsi que sur l’œuvre autobiographique de celle-ci, intitulée Vie ? ou Théâtre ? Dans le premier chapitre, je présente la vie et l’œuvre de Charlotte Salomon, peintre juive d’origine allemande, assassinée à Auschwitz. Le deuxième chapitre est consacré à l’analyse de la construction du personnage de l’héroïne dans le roman. Je m’y concentre sur la forme particulière et le caractère très personnel du livre, ainsi que sur quatre motifs choisis par l’auteur – la tragédie familiale, la judéité, la féminité et l’art –, pour construire « sa » Charlotte.

Celem mojej pracy licencjackiej jest analiza portretu artystki Charlotte Salomon w powieści Charlotte Davida Foenkinosa, wydanej w 2014 roku. Powieść oparta jest na faktach biograficznych z życia Charlotte Salomon (1917-1943), a także na jej autobiograficznym dziele zatytułowanym Życie? Czy teatr? W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiam życie i twórczość Charlotte Salomon, żydowskiej malarki niemieckiego pochodzenia, zamordowanej w Auschwitz. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest analizie konstrukcji postaci bohaterki powieści. Skupiam się na szczególnej formie i bardzo osobistym charakterze książki, a także na czterech motywach wybranych przez autora – rodzinnej tragedii, żydowskości, kobiecości oraz sztuce –, które posłużyły mu do skonstruowania „swojej” Charlotte.

My bachelor's thesis aims to analyze the portrait of the artist Charlotte Salomon in the novel Charlotte by David Foenkinos, published in 2014. The novel is based on the biographical facts of the life of Charlotte Salomon (1917-1943), as well as on her autobiographical work, entitled Life? or Theatre? In the first chapter, I present the life and work of Charlotte Salomon, Jewish painter of German origin, murdered in Auschwitz. The second chapter analyzes the construction of the character of the heroine in the novel. I focus on the specific form and the very personal character of the book, as well as on four motifs chosen by the author – family tragedy, Jewishness, femininity and art –, to construct “his” Charlotte.
