Vampirism as a metaphor. Literary and film metamorphoses of Dracula

The bachelor thesis talks about the subject of vampirism – a phenomenon that functions as a metaphor for human’s atavistic fears and desires. Through the comparison and analisys of three cultural texts – Bram Stoker’s „Dracula”, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau’s „Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horrors” and Francis Ford Coppola’s „Bram Stoker’s Dracula”, I prove that the theme of the count doesn’t seem to be losing it’s popularity, and, thanks to it’s plasticity, becomes a phantasm of different ideas and problems, that – in spite of the differences in their depiction – don’t loose significance throuought the years. The bachelor thesis also touches on the matter of the discrepencies of Dracula’s depictions in films, in comparison to the literary prototype.

Niniejsza praca jest poświęcona zjawisku wampiryzmu, które pełni rolę metafory odzwierciedlającej atawistyczne lęki oraz pragnienia człowieka. Poprzez zestawienie oraz analizę trzech tekstów kultury – „Draculi” Brama Stokera, „Nosferatu: symfonia grozy” Friedricha Wilhelma Murnaua, „Draculi Brama Stokera” Francisa Forda Coppoli – udowadniam, że motyw hrabiego nie traci na popularności, a przez swoją plastyczność jest w stanie stać się fantazmatem różnorakich idei oraz problemów, które – pomimo różnic w ich przedstawieniu – nie tracą znaczenia na przestrzeni lat. Praca porusza także kwestię rozbieżności obrazowania figury Draculi w realizacjach filmowych względem pierwowzoru literackiego.
