Neologismi artistici nel campo delle traduzioni poetiche italo-polacche

This thesis is a study on the specificity of the translation of artistic neologisms in Italian and Polish poetry. The first chapter, theoretical and descriptive, explains and develops the definition of the artistic neologism and outlines the role it plays in literature. The second chapter describes the translation mechanisms used to translate artistic neologisms. In this part of the thesis, the concept of foreignness and the so-called 'Verfremdungseffekt' is explained. Furthermore, some translation strategies that can be applied in the field of translating artistic neologisms are examined. The basis for further analysis is the translation model described by Peter Newmark. The third chapter is devoted to analysing the translation of some artistic neologisms found in the poems of Bolesław Leśmian and Giuseppe Ungaretti and their translations. In this part we can find examples of fine and more unsuccessful translation choices. This panorama is extended by my versiond of translation of certain words. Furthermore, at the beginning of the third chapter, the poetic language of both poets is described, with all the distinguishing characteristic. The Polish and Italian fortunes of their works are also outlined. The studies carried out, based on Newmark's model, made it possible to assess the quality of the translations of Leśmian's and Ungaretti's poems and to enter into polemics with some translators. Undoubtedly, the Ungarettian and Leśmian neologisms are not untranslatable, the translation of these words is an effort worth making.

Niniejsza praca jest studium nad specyfiką tłumaczenia neologizmów artystycznych w poezji włoskiej i polskiej. W rozdziale pierwszym, o charakterze teoretycznym i opisowym, wyjaśniono i rozwinięto definicję neologizmu artystycznego oraz zarysowano rolę, jaką odgrywa on w literaturze. W rozdziale drugim opisano mechanizmy translatorskie wykorzystywane do tłumaczenia neologizmów artystycznych. W tej części pracy wyjaśniono pojęcie obcości i tak zwanego "Verfremdungseffekt". Ponadto przeanalizowano niektóre strategie tłumaczeniowe, które można zastosować w dziedzinie przekładu neologizmów artystycznych. Podstawą do dalszych analiz stał się model tłumaczenia opisany przez Petera Newmarka. Rozdział trzeci poświęcony jest analizie tłumaczenia niektórych neologizmów artystycznych występujących w wierszach Bolesława Leśmiana oraz w utworach Giuseppe Ungarettiego i ich przekładach. W tej części można znaleźć zarówno przykłady bardzo udanych, jak i błędnych wyborów tłumaczeniowych. Tę panoramę poszerzają moje propozycje tłumaczeń niektórych słów. Ponadto na początku trzeciego rozdziału opisany jest język poetycki obu poetów ze wszystkimi cechami charakterystycznymi. Przedstawiono także polską i włoską recepcję ich dzieł. Przeprowadzone badania, oparte na modelu Newmarka, pozwoliły na ocenę jakości przekładów wierszy Leśmiana i Ungarettiego oraz na podjęcie polemiki z niektórymi tłumaczami. Niewątpliwie neologizmy Ungarettiego i Leśmiana nie są nieprzetłumaczalne, ich tłumaczenie jest wyzwaniem, którego warto się podjąć.

La presente tesi è uno studio sulla specificità della traduzione dei neologismi artistici nella poesia polacco-italiana. Il primo capitolo, di carattere teorico e descrittivo, permette di spiegare e sviluppare la definizione del neologismo artistico e di delineare il ruolo che esso svolge nella letteratura. Il secondo capitolo descrive i meccanismi traduttivi usati per tradurre i neologismi artistici. In questa parte della tesi viene spiegato il concetto di estraneità e di Verfremdungseffekt. Inoltre, sono esaminate alcune strategie traduttive che possono essere applicate nel campo della traduzione dei neologismi artistici. La base per ulteriori analisi è il modello traduttivo descritto da Peter Newmark. Il terzo capitolo è dedicato all’analisi della traduzione di alcuni neologismi artistici presenti nelle poesie di Bolesław Leśmian e nelle opere di Giuseppe Ungaretti e nelle loro traduzioni. In questa parte possiamo trovare sia esempi delle scelte traduttive molto riuscite che quelle sbagliate. Questo panorama è ampliato dalle mie proposte di traduzione di alcune parole. Inoltre, all’inizio del terzo capitolo è stato descritto il linguaggio poetico di entrambi i poeti, con tutte le caratteristiche principali. Viene anche delineata la fortuna polacca e italiana delle loro opere. Gli studi effettuati, basati sul modello di Newmark, hanno consentito di valutare la qualità delle traduzioni delle poesie di Leśmian e Ungaretti e di entrare in polemica con alcuni traduttori. Senza dubbio i neologismi ungarettiani e leśmianiami non sono intraducibili, si tratta di uno sforzo che vale la pena compiere.
