The influence of the media on the reunification chances of the Korean Peninsula

After World War II, the Korean Peninsula was divided into two separate states: the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea. Although it was originally assumed that the split would be temporary, the states failed to unite after the Korean War. Over the years, the States have tried to engage in a dialogue, but this has failed to achieve the goal of reuniting the peninsula. 74 years after the partition of Korea, many factors are responsible for the political processes in the world. As a result of the globalisation process, we are now witnessing a growing web of interdependence. This process has also led, among other things, to a stronger role for the media, which have a real impact on political processes at international level. This work aims to investigate the influence of the media on the chances of reunification of the Korean Peninsula. In order to achieve this, the media in the DPRK and the Republic of Korea will be characterised and the activities of the Heads of State and Government of both countries in the context of the inter-Korean dialogue will be presented.

Półwysep Koreański po zakończeniu II wojny światowej został podzielony na dwa odrębne państwa: Koreańską Republikę Ludowo-Demokratyczną oraz Republikę Korei. Mimo iż początkowo zakładano, że rozłam ten będzie tylko tymczasowy, po wojnie koreańskiej państwom nie udało się zjednoczyć. Na przestrzeni lat państwa podejmowały próby dialogu, które jednak nie doprowadziły do osiągnięcia celu jakim była reunifikacja półwyspu. Po 74 latach od rozłamu Korei za procesy polityczne na świecie odpowiada wiele czynników. Obecnie za sprawą procesu globalizacji mamy do czynienia z coraz większą siecią współzależności. Dodatkowo skutkiem tego procesu było m. in. zwiększenie roli mediów, które mają realny wpływ na procesy polityczne rozgrywające się na arenie międzynarodowej. Powyższa praca ma na celu zbadanie jaki wpływ mają media na szanse zjednoczeniowe Półwyspu Koreańskiego. By to osiągnąć scharakteryzowaniu poddane zostaną media w KRLD, jak i w Republice Korei oraz przedstawione zostaną działania przywódców obu państw na drodze dialogu międzykoreańskiego.
