Sapan Inqa of Empire of the Four Parts. Selected Issues in the Characteristics of Power in Tawantinsuyu

The thesis „Sapan Inqa of Empire of the Four Parts. Selected Issues in the Characteristics of Power in Tawantinsuyu” discusses elements shaping the image of the ruler of the Inca State. In the first chapter, the author introduces several theories related to the possible nature of governance in the Inca State. Referencing the hypotheses of several scholars, she considers the possibility of the existence of dualism, trialism or tetrarchy in Inca rule. The next chapter consists of issues aimed at positioning the ruler in Tawantinsuyu’s society. To this end, the author takes a closer look at issues of lineage, marriage, private property, as well as death, posthumous worship and one of the figurative representations of the inca called the wawque. Next chapter discusses the problem of succession to the throne in the Inca State. The author characterises the criteria for the selection of a new ruler, the ritual elements involved in the succession process and the possible course of the succession of individual Incas. The final chapter aims to put into practice most of the topics that appear in the work, with a particular emphasis on the succession problem that followed the death of Wayna Qhapaq, which involved a fratricidal war between Waskhar and Ataw Wallpa.

Praca „Sapan Inqa Imperium Czterech Części. Wybrane zagadnienia z charakterystyki władzy w Tawantinsuyu” omawia elementy kształtujące obraz władcy państwa Inków. W pierwszym rozdziale autorka przybliża kilka teorii związanych z możliwym charakterem rządów w państwie Inków. Przytaczając hipotezy kilku badaczy, rozważa możliwości istnienia dualizmu, trializmu lub czwórpodziału w inkaskiej władzy. Następny rozdział składa się z zagadnień mających na celu uplasowanie władcy w społeczeństwie Tawantinsuyu. W tym celu autorka przybliża zagadnienia związane z rodem, małżeństwem, własnością prywatną, a także śmiercią, kultem pośmiertnym i jednym z przedstawień figuralnych inki zwanym wawque. Kolejny z rozdziałów poświęcony jest problemowi następstwa tronu w państwie Inków. Autorka charakteryzuje kryteria wyboru nowego władcy, elementy rytualne związane z procesem następstwa tronu, a także możliwy przebieg sukcesji poszczególnych inków. Ostatni rozdział ma na celu ukazanie w praktyce większości pojawiających się w pracy wątków, przy czym szczególny nacisk położony został na problem sukcesyjny, który nastąpił po śmierci Wayny Qhapaqa, z którym to problemem wiązała się bratobójcza wojna pomiędzy Waskarem a Ataw Wallpą.
