Selected magic and medicinal plants in the vicinity of Dobczyce (Lesser Poland Voivodeship)

The main purpose of the study was to find out which plant species were used in Dobczyce in the 1950s and 1960s and how they were used. Moreover, attempts were made to compare the acquired knowledge with the information collected on this subject by selected researchers in the past years and to confirm the presence of the identified species in Dobczyce and its neighborhood. An interview was made with a 76-years-old woman who lived in Dobczyce in her youth, and on its basis, a list of 30 species, 1 genus and their uses was created. The use of each plant species has been compared with the literature. In the period from May to August, in accordance with the flowering time of individual species, they were searched for in the city of Dobczyce and along the communications routes leading to the villages of Niezdów and Skrzynka. The presence of species was documented by photos. Out off the 30 species and 1 genus listed from the interview 27 plants were found in the field. Among the 30 plant species and 1 genus mentioned, 24 plants were used only in herbal medicine, 5 had magical qualities, and 2 species had magical and healing properties. Some of the properties of plant species recorded from the interview coincided with those found in the literature, and some did not.

Celem pracy była próba stwierdzenia, z jakich gatunków roślin leczniczych i magicznych korzystano w okolicach Dobczyc na przełomie lat 50. i 60. XX wieku oraz jak je wykorzystywano. Ponadto próbowano potwierdzić obecność stwierdzonych gatunków w Dobczycach i ich okolicach oraz porównać zdobytą wiedzę z informacjami zebranymi na ten temat przez wybranych badaczy w minionych latach. Przeprowadzono wywiad z 76-letnią kobietą, która w młodości mieszkała na terenie Dobczyc i na jego podstawie stworzono listę 30 gatunków, 1 rodzaju i ich zastosowań, które potem zestawiono z wiedzą z literatury. W okresie od maja do sierpnia zgodnie z czasem kwitnienia poszczególnych gatunków szukano ich na terenie miasta Dobczyce i przy szlakach komunikacyjnych prowadzących do wsi Niezdów i Skrzynka. Ich występowanie udokumentowano fotografiami. Spośród otrzymanych 30 gatunków i 1 rodzaju aż 27 roślin udało się znaleźć w terenie. Z 30 wymienionych gatunków roślin i 1 rodzaju, 24 rośliny miały zastosowanie tylko w ziołolecznictwie, 5 miało właściwości tylko o charakterze magicznym, a 2 gatunki były o charakterze magicznym i leczniczym. Część właściwości gatunków roślin uzyskanych z wywiadu pokrywała się z tymi z literatury, a część nie.
