Celem pracy jest zrozumienie w jaki sposób twórcy muzyki DSBM podejmują w swoich dziełach tematy chorób psychicznych.Postawiono następujące pytania badawcze:1. W jaki sposób twórcy muzyki metalowej odnoszą się w swoichdziełach do problemów psychicznych, samookaleczeń i samobójstw?2. Czy problemy psychiczne i samookaleczenia są przez twórców metalowych metalową estetyzowane? Jeśli tak, to w jaki sposób?3. Czy problemy psychiczne i samookaleczenia są przez twórców metalowych romantyzowane?Na podstawie tychże pytań postawiono następujące hipotezy:1. Wielu twórców muzyki metalowej podejmuje tematy problemów psychicznych, samookaleczeń i samobójstw w sposób próbujący oswoić je i zwrócić na nie uwagę społeczeństwa, co ma pozytywny wpływ na walkę z nimi i ich skutkami.2. Choroby psychiczne są w muzyce DSBM estetyzowane.3. Choroby psychiczne są także w muzyce tej romantyzowane, co może pociągać za sobą niebezpieczny trend popularyzujący samookaleczenia, a nawet samobójstwa.Za pomocą analizy jakościowej manifestacji estetycznych twórców muzyki DSBM, stwierdzono, że choroby psychiczne są w muzyce DSBM estetyzowane. Wynika to z istoty, natury podgatunku.Wielu twórców muzyki metalowej podejmuje tematy problemów psychicznych, samookaleczeń i samobójstw w sposób próbujący oswoić je i zwrócić na nie uwagę społeczeństwa, co ma pozytywny wpływ na walkę z nimi i ich skutkami. Jest to rodzaj aktywizmu muzycznego.Problemy psychiczne oraz okaleczenia są w kulturze metalowej romantyzowane i fetyszyzowane. Niektórzy muzycy tworzą wokół swojej twórczości trend, popularyzujący choroby psychiczne, samookaleczenia, autodestrukcyjny tryb życia i samobójstwa.Nadmierna estetyzacja i częste ujmowanie rzeczywistych problemów psychicznych i okaleczeń może prowadzić do anestetyki — znieczulenia społecznego.Sposób ukazywania problemów psychicznych, samookaleczeń i samobójstw w DSBM jest niejednorodny i częściowo zależy od kręgu kulturowego i obszaru geograficznego, w którym funkcjonuje określony zespół lub projekt. Twórczość DSBM może więc być zarówno pomocna w walce z opisywanymi problemami, jak i negatywnie je pogłębiać.

The aim of this thesis is to understand how DSBM music undertakes the problem of mental illnesses.Questions asked:1. How do DSBM musicians undertake the topics of mental issues, self-harm and suicide?2. Are those mental issues and self-harm aestheticised? If yes – then how?3. Are they romanticised?Hypotheses:1. Many DSBM musicians and bands use the topics of mental issues, self-harm and suicide in a way that can accustom and familiarize the social talk around them. That has a positive impact and consequences on a social reception of those topics.2. Mental illnesses are aestheticised in the DSBM music.3. They are also romanticised, which can result in creating a dangerous trend of popularising self harm, or even suicide.The qualitative analysis of the DSBM art pieces has shown, that mental illnesses are aestheticised in this music sub-genre. That is due to a genre’s nature and essence.Many DSBM musicians and bands use the topics of mental issues, self-harm and suicide in a way that can accustom and familiarize the social talk around them. That has a positive impact and consequences on a social reception of those topics and is a kind of an activism.Mental illnesses and self-harm are romanticised and fetishised in DSBM. Some musicians create a kind of a trend of popularising mental illnesses, self-harm, auto-destructive lifestyle and and sucide.An over-aestheticisation and often recognition of those topics can lead to anaesthesia – a state of social reception, where people no longer recognise and care about those.A way of undertaking those topics in the DSBM culture is uneven and depends on cultural and geographical area the art comes from. DSBM can both help and worsen those problems.
