There were 21 chiefs of department of foreign affairs from 1918 to 1945. Jagiellonian University has three representatives in this group: 1) Władysław Wróblewski; 2) Aleksander Skrzyński; 3) Edward Raczyński. There are also two persons who were vice-ministers (under-secretary of state) of foreign affairs: 1) Artur Benis; 2) Alfred Wysocki. The point of this article is to show education of those five man starting from grammar-school up to end of studies at the university. Three of those future diplomats were born in gentry families whereas two, in middle class. All of them were roman-Catholics, but A. Benis was converted from Judaism. All of them declared Polish nationality. All of them also graduated from classical type of grammar-schools, and then from Law Department at the University. They got graduation, and then after passing special exams, they achieved doctor’s degrees. Two of them - W. Wróblewski and A. Benis - were also given "veniam legendi" which means that they had right to give lectures at the University. A. Benis were also titular Professor of Jagiellonian University. There were no special studies for diplomacy at the University at that time, so it can be said that none of them were particularly prepared for working as diplomats. They of course owed their knowledge about the law to the University, but about the world they had lived in and ability to speak in foreign languages to grammar-schools and their education at home.
