The functions of space in Stefan Żeromski’s "History of sin"

Niniejsza praca jest próbą odczytania "Dziejów grzechu" przez pryzmat przestrzeni wykreowanych w utworze. Pierwszy rozdział prezentuje obszary cieleśnie zapośredniczone przez główną bohaterkę powieści. W następnym rozdziale zaprezentowano przestrzenie przewijające się w toku fabuły, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem miast. Końcowy rozdział omawia heterotopie i nie-miejsca obecne w dziele Żeromskiego. Podstawy metodologiczne pracy wyznaczają badania M. Merleau-Ponty'ego, E. Levinasa, M. de Certeau, M. Foucault oraz M. Augé.

This work is an attempt to read "The History of Sin" through the prism of the spaces created in the work. The first chapter presents areas bodily mediated by the main character of the novel. The next chapter presents the spaces that appear in the course of the plot, with particular emphasis on cities. The final chapter discusses heterotopias and non-places present in Żeromski's work. The methodological basis of the work is determined by the studies of M. Merleau-Ponty, E. Levinas, M. de Certeau, M. Foucault and M. Augé.
