On early bilingualism and its effects

Celem tej pracy było zrozumienie, co oznacza wczesna dwujęzyczność, jak się rozwija i jaki ma wpływ na dalszy rozwój w życiu osoby dwujęzycznej. W poszczególnych rozdziałach omówiono najważniejsze zjawiska związane z wczesną dwujęzycznością oraz przedstawiono własne doświadczenia z perspektywy osoby bezpośrednio dotkniętej tym fenomenem. W pierwszym rozdziale skupiono się na wyjaśnieniu zjawiska dwujęzyczności, w tym informacji o tym, czym jest sam język. Poruszono także kwestię relacji między dwukulturowością a dwujęzycznością. Rozdział drugi został poświęcony problemowi dwujęzycznej akwizycji języka. W kolejnym rozdziale przedstawiam wczesną dwujęzyczność na przykładach z własnego doświadczenia i z mojego otoczenia. Rozdział ten jest również wyposażony w przykłady, które mogą znacząco przyczynić się do wczesnej dwujęzyczności dziecka. Rozdział czwarty miał na celu bardziej szczegółowe opisanie, w jaki sposób dwujęzyczność pozytywnie wpływa na dalszy rozwój językowy, a także na obszary pozajęzykowe. Ponadto przedstawiony został związek między rozwojem neuronów odpowiedzialnych za przyswajanie języka u wczesnych dzieci dwujęzycznych a dwujęzycznością w znaczeniu ogólnym, co zostało poparte moimi własnymi doświadczeniami. W ostatnim rozdziale omówione zostały dwa wyrażenia, które często pojawiają się w kontekście dwujęzyczności: Code-switching i Code-mixing. Wspomniano o zapożyczeniach i wyjaśniono ich cechy odróżniające je od code-switchingu i code-mixingu.

The aim of this thesis was to understand what early bilingualism means, how it develops and what influence it has on the further development in the life of a bilingual person. In the respective chapters, the most important phenomena associated with early bilingualism were discussed and the own experiences from the perspective of the person directly affected were presented. The first chapter focused on explaining the phenomenon of bilingualism, including information about what language itself means. The next part of the chapter was devoted to the problem of bilingualism. The relationship between biculturalism and bilingualism has been also addressed. Chapter two was dedicated to the problem of bilingual language acquisition. In this chapter, the process of language acquirement was discussed, including the phenomena of learning and acquiring. The concepts of first language and first language acquisition in relation to native and first languages are also explained. In addition, this chapter discusses the definition of second language and second language acquiring , the conditions that favour this phenomenon, and describes a classification of language development that I have proposed. In the following chapter I introduce early bilingualism with examples from my own experience and from my environment. The chapter is also equipped with examples, which can significantly contribute to a child's early bilingualism. The fourth chapter aimed to describe in more detail how bilingualism positively influences further linguistic development as well as non-linguistic areas. Furthermore, the connection between the development of the neurons responsible for language acquisition in early bilingual children and bilingualism in general is described and substantiated with my own experiences. In the last chapter, two expressions that are frequently encountered in the context of bilingualism were viewed: Code-switching and Code-mixing.Borrowing was mentioned and its different features from code-switching and code-mixing were explained.

Die vorliegende Arbeit hatte zum Ziel, zu ergründen, was frühe Zweisprachigkeit bedeutet, wie sie sich entwickelt und welche Auswirkungen sie auf die weitere Entwicklung im Leben einer zweisprachigen Person hat. Die Kapitel erörtern die wichtigsten Phänomene der frühen Zweisprachigkeit und schildern eigene Erfahrungen aus der Sicht eines direkt von diesem Phänomen betroffenen Menschen. Das erste Kapitel befasst sich mit der Erklärung des Phänomens der Zweisprachigkeit, einschließlich Informationen darüber, was Sprache an sich ist. Zudem wird die Beziehung zwischen Bikulturalität und Zweisprachigkeit angesprochen. Das zweite Kapitel ist dem Problem des zweisprachigen Spracherwerbs gewidmet. Im nächsten Kapitel erläutere ich die frühe Zweisprachigkeit anhand von Beispielen aus meiner eigenen Erfahrung und aus meinem Umfeld. Dieses Kapitel ist auch mit Beispielen ausgestattet, die wesentlich zur frühen Zweisprachigkeit eines Kindes beitragen können. In Kapitel vier wurde näher beschrieben, wie sich die Zweisprachigkeit positiv auf die weitere sprachliche Entwicklung und auf außersprachliche Bereiche auswirkt. Außerdem wurde der Zusammenhang zwischen der Entwicklung der für den Spracherwerb verantwortlichen Neuronen bei frühen zweisprachigen Kindern und der Zweisprachigkeit im Allgemeinen dargestellt, was durch meine eigenen Erfahrungen gestützt wurde. Das letzte Kapitel befasst sich mit zwei Ausdrücken, die im Zusammenhang mit der Zweisprachigkeit häufig vorkommen: Code-Switching und Code-Mixing. Es wird auf das Borrowing eingegangen und seine Merkmale, die es von Code-Switching und Code-Mixing unterscheiden, werden erläutert.
