Selected health issues of a child with Duchenne mscular dystrophy in a home environment - a case study.

Dystrofia mięśniowa Duchenne’a prowadzi do stopniowego upośledzenia funkcji wielu narządów w szczególności układu ruchu. Okres przeżycia pacjentów cierpiących na tę chorobę wynosi zwykle 20-25 lat. Wczesna diagnostyka jest kluczowa dla skutecznego opóźnienia rozwoju choroby, a specjalistyczna opieka zarówno nad pacjentem, jak i jego rodziną, jest niezbędna.Celem pracy była opieka nad dzieckiem chorym na dystrofię mięśniową Duchenne’a przebywającym w środowisku domowym. W początkowej części pracy na podstawie przeglądu dostępnych źródeł przedstawiono temat dotyczący dystrofii mięśniowej Duchenne’a, uwzględniając jej kliniczny aspekt oraz wpływ choroby genetycznej na rozwój dziecka pod kątem aspektów biologicznych, psychologicznych i społecznych. Ponadto, skupiono się na postawie rodziny wobec choroby nieuleczalnej dziecka.Opis badawczy ujmuje sposób przeprowadzania badań oraz techniki wykorzystane w celu pozyskania informacji dotyczących dziecka cierpiącego na dystrofię mięśniową Duchenne'a w środowisku domowym. W pracy zostały przedstawione diagnozy pielęgniarskie, plan opieki oraz ocena bio-psycho-społeczna dziecka cierpiącego na dystrofię mięśniową Duchenne’a. Podjęte interwencje pielęgniarskie miały na celu wyeliminowanie lub ograniczenie problemów zdrowotnych towarzyszących jednostce chorobowej.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy leads to a gradual impairment of the function of many organs in particular the musculoskeletal system. The survival period for patients suffering from this disease is usually 20-25 years. Early diagnosis is crucial to effectively delay the progression of the disease, and specialized care for both the patient and his family is essential.The aim of this study was to care for a child with Duchenne muscular dystrophy residing in a home environment. In the initial part of the paper, based on a review of available sources, the topic of Duchenne muscular dystrophy was presented, considering its clinical aspect and the impact of the genetic disease on the child's development in terms of biological, psychological, and social aspects. In addition, the focus is on the family's attitude toward the child's incurable disease.The research description captures the method of conducting the study, and the techniques used to obtain information regarding a child suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy in the home environment. The nursing diagnoses, plan of care, and bio-psycho-social assessment of a child suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy are presented in the study. The nursing interventions undertaken were aimed at eliminating or reducing the health problems associated with the disease entity.
