The image of martial law and the second half of the 1980s in the newest Polish cinema

The subject of this paper is an analysis of the image of the Polish People’s Republic in contemporary cinema, examining both the feature and the formal aspects of depicting Poland in the 1980s. (restricted to the period after December 1981, to the period of transition). Tracing the strategies and motifs used by contemporary filmmakers to talk about the past, examining the contexts and character in which the 1980s appeared in cinema. The first part of the work is devoted to the issue of memory and an attempt to find the reason for the popularity of the decade in recent years. Further on, the role of nostalgia, historical film as a way of telling stories about the present, and colour as a means of emancipation is analysed.

Tematem pracy jest analiza obrazu PRL-u we współczesnym kinie, badanie zarówno fabularnej, jak i formalnej strony przedstawiania Polski w latach 80. (z zawężeniem na okres po grudniu 1981, do okresu transformacji). Prześledzenie strategii i motywów wykorzystywanych przez współczesnych twórców do mówienia o przeszłości, badanie kontekstów i charakteru, w jakich lata 80. pojawiają się w kinie. Pierwsza część pracy poświęcona jest zagadnieniu pamięci i próbie odnalezienia przyczyny popularności dekady w ostatnich latach. W dalszej części pracy przeanalizowana została rola nostalgii, filmu historycznego jako sposobu do opowiadania o współczesności, a także koloru jako środka emancypacji.
