White supremacist and Germanic paganism in Europe, are there ties between the two? An Analysis of Varg Vikernes and Anders Breivik’s cases

Niniejsza rozprawa krytycznie bada potencjalne powiązania między ideologiami białej supremacji a germańskim pogaństwem w kontekście europejskim, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem przypadków dwóch obywateli Norwegii związanych z tymi tematami. Pierwszą analizowaną osobą jest Kristian Vikernes, pisarz i muzyk, lepiej znany jako Varg Vikernes, który jest związany z radykalnymi perspektywami politycznymi. Drugą analizowaną osobą jest Anders Behring Breivik, który zaaranżował słynne i brutalne ataki terrorystyczne w Norwegii w 2011 roku. Skrupulatnie analizując materiały pisemne obu osób, obejmujące zarówno źródła fizyczne, jak i cyfrowe, niniejsze badanie ma na celu ustalenie, w jakim stopniu ich ideologiczne skłonności i działania można prześledzić wstecz do doktryn białej supremacji i germańskich wierzeń pogańskich. Co więcej, badania te sytuują się w solidnych ramach teoretycznych, syntetyzując odpowiednie materiały naukowe i literaturę, zapewniając w ten sposób kompleksowe wprowadzenie do tematu i analizowanych przypadków.

This thesis critically investigates the potential interconnection between white supremacist ideologies and Germanic paganism within the European context, with a specific focus on the cases of two Norwegian individuals connected to these topics. The first individual analyzed is Kristian Vikernes, a writer and musician, better known as Varg Vikernes, who is associated with radical political perspectives. The second individual examined is Anders Behring Breivik, who orchestrated the notorious and violent terrorist attacks in Norway in 2011. By meticulously analyzing the written materials of both individuals, encompassing both physical and digital sources, this study endeavors to ascertain the extent to which their ideological inclinations and actions can be traced back to white supremacist doctrines and Germanic pagan beliefs. Furthermore, this research situates itself within a robust theoretical framework, synthesizing pertinent scholarly materials and literature, thereby providing a comprehensive introduction to the subject matter and the cases under scrutiny.
