Public transport is an important component of the economic and social structure of a country. The following paper describes passenger rail transport in Sweden. It analyses physical barriers and social aspects affecting rail network development. The paper presents the current state of Swedish railway network, its use in passenger transport by different operators and the availability of railway services. The Resplus system, which integrates various means of transport in Sweden, is also discussed.
