Assessment of the financial situation of pediatric research institutes in the period 2019-2021

Instytuty badawcze nadzorowane przez Ministerstwo Zdrowia stanowią szczególną formę podmiotów leczniczych (wysokospecjalistycznych szpitali).Celem pracy było dokonanie oceny sytuacji ekonomiczno-finansowej wybranych trzech instytutów badawczych o profilu pediatrycznym (Instytut Matki i Dziecka, Instytut „Centrum Zdrowia Matki Polki”, Instytut „Pomnik - Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka) w latach 2019-2021.Zastosowane metody objęły szczegółową analizę sprawozdań finansowych badanych instytutów, w tym analizę wstępną i pogłębioną.Wyniki wskazują, że w analizowanym okresie tylko jeden z badanych szpitali (Instytut „Pomnik - Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka”) znacząco poprawił swoją sytuację finansową, niemniej jednak w przypadku wszystkich trzech jednostek sytuacja finansowa nadal pozostaje trudna. Wszystkie trzy analizowane jednostki miały w latach 2019-2021 ujemną wartość kapitału własnego, co oznacza ze wartość zobowiązań ogółem była wyższa niż wartość majątku. Ze względu na szczególną rolę w systemie ochrony zdrowia, działania ukierunkowane na bieżące monitorowanie i poprawę sytuacji finansowej instytutów badawczych o profilu pediatrycznym powinny mieć charakter priorytetowy.

Research institutes supervised by the Ministry of Health are a special form of medical entities (highly specialized hospitals).The purpose of this study was to assess the economic and financial situation of selected three research institutes with a pediatric profile (Institute of Mother and Child, Institute „Polish Mother's Health Center", Institute „Monument - Children's Health Center") in 2019-2021.The methods used included a detailed analysis of the financial statements of the studied institutes, including preliminary and in-depth analysis.The results show that during the analyzed period, only one of the studied hospitals (Institute „Monument - Children's Health Center") significantly improved its financial situation, but nevertheless the financial situation remains difficult for all three units. All three analyzed units had negative equity in 2019-2021, which means that the value of total liabilities was higher than the value of assets. Due to their special role in the health care system, measures aimed at ongoing monitoring and improvement of the financial situation of pediatric research institutes should be a priority.
