Modern societies are complex and diverse in many ways, and national identity plays a significant role in defining individuals and social groups, influencing emotions, attitudes and beliefs, especially among the younger generation. This paper presents the results of a qualitative study, the main aim of which was to answer the question: what are the characteristics of the national identity of young students, and do they depend on the field of study? Male and female students, such as mathematics and sociology majors, were analysed. Using the collected data, the study focused on three issues, such as attitudes towards the Polish nation and emotional attachment, historical memory, and attitudes (patriotism, nationalism). The theoretical foundation of the study is based on reflections on the concept of national identity as defined by Antonina Kłoskowska and Zbigniew Bokszański. The own understanding of national identity is formulated based on a combination of the approaches contained in these definitions. The collected data indicate the presence of a sense of national identity among male and female students, expressed through national pride, patriotic attitudes and openness towards international communities.

Współczesne społeczeństwa są złożone i zróżnicowane pod wieloma względami, a tożsamość narodowa odgrywa istotną rolę w definiowaniu jednostek i grup społecznych, wpływając na emocje, postawy i przekonania, zwłaszcza wśród młodego pokolenia. Praca przedstawia wyniki badań jakościowych, których głównym celem była odpowiedź na pytanie: Jakie są cechy tożsamości narodowej młodzieży studiującej i czy zależne są od kierunku studiów? Analizie poddano studentów i studentki, takich kierunków jak matematyka i socjologia. Wykorzystując zebrane dane, badanie skupiało się na trzech kwestiach, takich jak: stosunek do narodu polskiego oraz emocjonalne przywiązanie, pamięć historyczna i postawy (patriotyzm, nacjonalizm). Fundament teoretyczny pracy opiera się głównie na rozważaniach na temat pojęcia tożsamości narodowej zdefiniowanej przez Antoninę Kłoskowską oraz Zbigniewa Bokszańskiego. Własne rozumienie tożsamości narodowej sformułowane jest na podstawie połączenia ujęć zawartych w tych definicjach. Zgromadzone dane wskazują na obecność poczucia tożsamości narodowej wśród studentów i studentek, wyrażającą się poprzez dumę narodową, postawę patriotyczną oraz otwartość względem wspólnot międzynarodowych.
