Poniższa praca skupia się na zagadnieniu sztuki naskalnej z obszaru Ziemi Arnhema w północnej Australii w starszym i środkowym etapie jej rozwoju. Jej celem jest przedstawienie dotychczas opublikowanych informacji dotyczących wybranych stylów sztuki naskalnej na Ziemi Arnhema. Dla lepszego ukazania tego tematu przedstawiono także definicję samej sztuki oraz charakterystykę geograficzno-kulturową omawianego obszaru. Opisano również zagadnienie dotyczące pojawienia się ludzi na kontynencie australijskim oraz związek tego wydarzenia z początkami produkcji sztuki naskalnej w północnej Australii. Poruszono też problematykę chronologii sztuki naskalnej Ziemi Arnhema przedstawiając dotychczas powstałe systemy chronologiczne oraz ukazując sposoby jej datowania. W pracy podkreślone zostało znaczenie sztuki naskalnej zarówno dla ludności aborygeńskiej, jak i w badaniach archeologicznych oraz udowodniono, że jej rola jest znacząca. Podkreślona została również potrzeba ochrony sztuki naskalnej jako dziedzictwa o dużym znaczeniu kulturowym i naukowym.

The following thesis focuses on the issue of rock art from the Arnhem Land area in northern Australia in the older and middle stages of its development. It presents information about selected styles of Arnhem Land rock art. For a better understanding of the subject, the definition of the art itself and the geographic and cultural characteristics of the area are also presented. The issue of the appearance of humans on the Australian continent and the relationship of this event to the beginning of the production of rock art in northern Australia is also described. The chronology of the Arnhem Land rock art has been showed by demonstrating the chronological systems that have been developed so far and showing the ways of dating the rock art. The paper emphasizes the importance of rock art both to Aboriginal people and in archaeological research and proves that its role is significant. It also emphasizes the need to protect rock art as a heritage of great cultural and scientific significance.
