Trough the prism of art : about Maria Poprzęckas columns

The aim of the article is to present some of the emerging problems within visual culture on the basis of the writings by Maria Poprzęcka, contemporary art historian and art critic. The article presents a selected number of her columns primarily taken from the online magazine "Dwutygodnik.com" and discusses main problems described by the author, all of them through the issues of the world of art, pointing to the state of contemporary culture. Selected columns by Poprzęcka will become the basis for discussing the following topics: relations between literature and fine arts, reception theory, contemporary issues with museums and tourism, and the exhaustion of existing formulas in today’s visual culture in connection to the changing face of art. Also, the researcher’s attitude towards the problems will be described, as well as her writing style and rhetorical skills. The article concludes with the statement that art becomes a proper testimony of changes now taking place in culture and is also a convenient standpoint to observe upcoming modifications in the current state of the humanities in general.

Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie istotnych problemów w kulturze wizualnej na podstawie pism Marii Poprzęckiej, współczesnej historyczki i krytyczki sztuki. W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane felietony jej autorstwa, opublikowane przede wszystkim w internetowym czasopiśmie "Dwutygodnik.com", i omówiono główne kwestie tam opisane. Wszystkie one, wychodząc ze spostrzeżeń dotyczących sztuki, wskazują na istotne problemy w obszarze współczesnej kultury. Owe felietony stały się podstawą do omówienia następujących tematów: relacji pomiędzy literaturą a sztuką, estetyki recepcji, współczesnych problemów z muzeami i turystyką oraz wyczerpywania się zastanych formuł w kulturze wizualnej, które powiązane są ze zmieniającym się obliczem sztuki. W artykule poświęcono także uwagę stosunkowi autorki do omawianych problemów, językowi opisu oraz zabiegom retorycznym. W konkluzji podkreślono znaczenie współczesnej sztuki jako świadectwa zmian zachodzących w kulturze oraz jej rolę jako miejsca obserwacji przemian nadchodzących w całej humanistyce.
