The image of Cleopatra VII in Plutarch's of Chaeronea "Life of Antony" and Appian's of Alexandria "The Civil Wars"

Niniejsza praca pt. "Wizerunek Kleopatry VII w Żywocie Antoniusza Plutarcha z Cheronei i Wojnach domowych Appiana z Aleksandrii" dotyczy sposobu postrzegania Kleopatry VII zawartego w Żywocie Antoniusza Plutarcha z Cheronei i Wojnach domowych Appiana z Aleksandrii . Celem pracy jest przedstawienie czym charakteryzował się wizerunek Kleopatry VII w pismach obu autorów. Praca dzieli się na trzy rozdziały. Pierwszy rozdział poświęcony został ukazaniu, w jaki sposób wykształciła się biografia perypatetyczna, do której zalicza się dzieło Plutarcha. W dalszej części rozdziału podjęto próbę przedstawienia portretu psychologicznego Kleopatry obecnego u Plutarcha. Rozdział drugi charakteryzuje Appiana jako historyka oraz dotyczy odwołań do postaci Kleopatry w jego dziele. Ostatni rozdział szczegółowo analizuje podobieństwa i różnice między obydwoma autorami, poruszając następujące kwestie: pochodzenie i wpływ ich romanocentryzmu na wizerunek Kleopatry; nastawienie względem Egiptu i jego ostatniej władczyni; użyte przez nich źródła; wpływ cech gatunkowych dzieł na ich prace oraz konkluzje końcowe.

This work entitled "The image of Cleopatra VII in Plutarch's of Chaeronea «Life of Antony» and Appian's of Alexandria «The Civil Wars»" deals with the perception of Cleopatra VII contained in the "Life of Antony" by Plutarch of Chaeronea and "The Civil Wars" by Appian of Alexandria. The aim of the work is to present what characterized the image of Cleopatra VII in the writings of both authors. The work is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to showing how the peripatetic biography, which includes the work of Plutarch, developed. In the further part of the chapter, an attempt was made to present the psychological portrait of Cleopatra present in Plutarch. The second chapter characterizes Appian as a historian and refers to the character of Cleopatra in his work. The final chapter analyzes in detail the similarities and differences between the two authors, addressing the following issues: the origin and influence of their Romanocentrism on the image of Cleopatra; attitude towards Egypt and its last ruler; the sources they used; the influence of genre features of works on their studies and final conclusions.
