The humanistic world of changes by Francesco Colonna

In his philosophical masterpiece - Hypnerotomachia Polphilli, Francesco Colonna, creates a system of knowledge about the whole world and a human, which is built on heritage of different eras and civilizations. The world of changes described by Colonna in this article is shown at two fundamental levels. The first one we can recognize by following the author’s philosophy, that reflects humanistic foundations. The second level may be unraveled from the story of Polphilo – where the transformation of human is concealed. This individual transformation is, however, a sign of the metamorphosis of the entire world. The three examples that reflect this assumptions are: 1. simulacra Aegipti in the humanistic Italian culture; 2. Transitus animae in arts; and 3. Ars topiaria as a manifestation of a shift in the way of thinking about the laws of nature.

Francesco Colonna, autor Hypnerotomachii Poliphili, tworzy w swym dziele filozoficzny system wiedzy o świecie i o człowieku, w którym szczególną rolę odgrywa sposób postrzegania kulturowego dziedzictwa różnych epok i cywilizacji. Świat przemian według Colonny w niniejszym artykule jest ukazany na dwóch zasadniczych poziomach: pierwszy i nadrzędny odnajdziemy śledząc filozofię autora, a jest ona odbiciem wskazanych powyżej humanistycznych założeń, zaś poziom drugi odnajdziemy śledząc historię bohatera oraz opis zdarzeń – tu kryje się przemiana indywidualna, która jest znakiem przeobrażeń świata. Założenia te są ilustrowane na trzech przykładach: 1. simulacra Aegipti; 2. Transitus animae w przedstawieniach figuralnych; 3. Ars topiaria jako przejaw zmiany myślenia na temat praw natury.
