The singing of the music chapel of Czerwińsk in the first half of the nineteenth century
The aim of this paper is to present the activity of the church music chapel in Czerwińsk in the first four decades of the 19th century from the perspective of singing. The article outlines briefly the history of Czerwińsk, introduces the social and political contexts of the functioning of the chapel after the Partitions of Poland, provides information about the musicians and presents the profile of a composer active in Czerwińsk, Antoni Milwid. Then, the vocal compositions by Milwid are analysed from the point of view of the treatment of voices, which enables the author to characterise the techniques and styles of singing used by the composer. Finally, the overall picture of the musical life of the ensemble in the given period is summarised.
