The Reign of Alfred the Great according to Assers "Life of King Alfred"

Praca proponuje analizę poglądu na okres panowania Alfreda Wielkiego (848 - 899) w świetle danych biskupa Assera. Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest wskazanie cezur w okresie panowania Alfreda Wielkiego zasygnalizowanych przez Assera. Jednocześnie celem jest ustalić, jakie cechy charakteru króla ujawnił Asser, a także jaki opis króla Alfreda pozostawił. Podstawą pracy jest analiza utworu biskupa Assera pt. "Żywot króla Alfreda". Ramy chronologiczne pracy obejmują okres od wędrówkek plemion anglosaskich w V wieku do 893 r. Uzasadnione to jest tym, że narracja rozpoczyna się od uwypuklenia tła historycznego: zasygnalizowane zostaną wstępne uwagi od czasów wędrówek Anglosasów i powstania królestwa Wessex do początków epoki wikingów. Druga częśc natomiast poświęcona jest biskupowi Asserowi i Alfredowi Wielkiemu. Praca się kończy około 893 r., ponieważ wtedy Asser zakończył pisanie "Żywota króla Alfreda".

This work is devoted to the analysis of the perception of King Alfred the Great by bishop Asser. The purpose of this work is to highlight the important changes during the reign of Alfred the Great that Asser emphasized. At the same time, the goal is to determine what character traits of the king Asser paid attention to, as well as which description of him he left. The basis for the work is Asser's "Life of King Alfred". The chronological scope of the work is limited to the time from the arrival of the Angles, Saxons and Jutes in Britain to 893. This is justified by the fact that the work begins with the designation of the historical context, that is, from the arrival of the Anglo-Saxon tribes and the creation of the kingdom of Wessex to the beginning of the Viking Age. The second part of the work is devoted directly to Asser and Alfred the Great, which ends in 893. This year Asser finished writing his work.
